(New)BS Class (Box Stock Class)

There are quite a few tracks and series that are showing great interest in this new BS class.  The intent is to have an affordable class that anyone can ride and have fun.  Everyone agrees that we need to attract new interest in our karting community.  The BS class is an opportunity for everyone to get started in kart racing at affordable prices.  The concept is quite simple.  Lets make use of some of the older karting chassis’ laying around and go racing.  The most important thing about the BS class is it must have purpose, direction, tech and a set of rules that everyone in the class must adhere too.  Listed below are a general set of Box Stock rules.

The following rules apply to the new BS Class:

Weight for BS Class:  The track or series will establish age and weight for the class is minimum 375.

Spec engine:  BS engine (OHV) This is the only engine allowed for the BS Class.

The OHV engine will be yellow in color and have a BS engine label on the side cover (box stock) Easy to identify

The engine can be purchased for under $200

The only modifications allowed to the engine are: You can disconnect or remove the governor.  You can disconnect the oil sensor and off/on switch.

Gasoline Only:  87 to 93 octane rating.  (to be checked with –digatron fuel meter)

Spec Tires: Maxxis EL tires Only ($155 set).  You will only need one set!

Spec Clutch: (Drum) Shoe type clutch Only, Max Torque has a special price on a clutch for the box stock class.  Clutch driver must be a 16 tooth.  You can run any back gear, 35 chain only.  The clutch driver tooth may vary depending on your track.

Claimer Rule:  You must finish in the top 5 to purchase the winners engine for $200 (minus the clutch/chain guard/throttle kit)  The engines in this class will be teched as any other class you have racing.  Anyone refusing to tear down or sell their engine (by the claimer rule) will be disqualified and not allowed to race (in the BS Class) for the remainder of the season! (sorry, but the penalty has to be stiff for this class to work)

I will have a set of measurements for tech on this engine out soon.
